How old does my child need to be for their first visit?
The Australiasian Academy of Paediatric Dentistry recommend that the first dental check up takes place after the first baby tooth has appeared and no later than twelve months of age. This would be good time to visit the dentist or dental hygienist for an very first dental visit.
Children can be nervous or having fears as dentist and dental staffs are stranger to them and we will try our very best to make the visit a comfortable experience.
The baby teeth are incredibly important as these will set milestone for adult teeth and smile.
Children need to understand that a trip to the dentist is a good thing. That’s where Mum and Dad can help to bring children even if they are not getting any examination, but just to get familiarised with environment and sounds.
What’s the Child Dental Benefits Schedule?
In Australia, children aged between two and 18 years have free basic dental care as part of the Commonwealth-funded Child Dental Benefits Schedule (CDBS).
CDBS provides basic dental services, including examinations, X-rays, cleaning, fissure sealing, fillings, root canals and extractions, are capped at $1000 per child over two consecutive calendar years. Your child will be treatment will be bulk-billed.
As the payment of benefits will be administered through Medicare, using details held by Centrelink or the Department of Veterans’ Affairs, you should ensure that your details are up to date.
